Lord Lambourne is one of the earliest of the scented eating apples. The tree is easy to grow and produces beautifully shaped round fruit. The colouring is dark gold over green, with just a touch of russet. The flesh or a ripe Lord Lambourne is aromatic, creamy-white and quite crisp and the flavour is pleasantly strongjuicy and acidic. Like many of the aromatic apples, Lord Lambourne is a very good juicer.
It is a mid-season flowering pollinator and so needs to be grown in the company of another pollinator or self-fertile apple for both to fruit. If you need more information on apple pollination and for a list of good cross-pollination partners for Lord Lambourne, please take a look at our Guide to Fruit Pollination. Do remember that if there is a flowering crab apple tree within a hundred yards or so you should not need a pollinator at all.
