Reverend W Wilkes is an ancient cooking apple. The tree is beautifully compact and has some of the most gorgeousflowers in the apple world - many people grow it for its blossom and take the cookers as a tasty bonus.
The large, conical apples ripen over August and September and can be used through to November. The flesh is juicy and cooks easily to a puree. Reverend Wilkes is also a great apple for stewing. It is a mid-season flowering pollinator and so needs to be grown in the company of another pollinator or self-fertile apple for both to fruit.
