General description of Berberis julianae plants:
This sturdy shrub makes great hedging. It has copper coloured young leaves and yellow flowers in spring, which ripen into black berries. The leaves turn green in summer and then flame red and orange in autumn, remaining on the branches until the following spring. Although it is not quite as covered in thorns as some of its relatives, each spine is longer and more ferocious than the other varieties.

History & uses of Julians Barberry:
This species was brought to Britain from China by the prolific plant collector Ernest H Wilson in 1900.
