Crataegus laevigata Rosea Flore Pleno

Browe all of our other ornamental Hawthorn trees & bareroot hedging here.

This Midland hawthorn is a great garden specimen.
It is probably the parent of the popular red flowering Hawthorn tree, Paul's Scarlet.
Their blooms both have a double row of petals, like miniature roses. The only real difference between them is that Rosea Flore Pleno's flowers are a light, bright shade of pink.

The glorious mass of blossoms comes in late spring, filling the air around the tree with their distinctive scent and the butterflies that turn up for a snack.
In autumn, the attractive, small red fruits that develop are a good source of early winter food for birds to fatten up on. You can also pick them for use in hedgerow jam.

Rosea Flore Pleno was cultivated in the 1830's and has been used in parks and stately gardens ever since.
In 2002, it was given the RHS's Award of Garden Merit for being both beautiful and easy for anyone to grow in their garden.

Growing & Planting your Hawthorn Tree:
Hawthorn will grow literally anywhere in the UK except in very boggy, waterlogged soil.
The more sun they get, the more flowers they will give you, but they are used to being overshadowed by bigger trees and won't suffer at all in a shady spot.

Your trees will grow to about 10 metres, 35 feet.

This tree is called Rosea Flore Plena by some respected reference books and Rosea Flore Pleno by others.
When in doubt, we use the RHS to settle the matter.

Please watch our tree planting video for full planting instructions.

How Standard Trees are Measured:
All the plants in the ornamental trees section are graded as standards, which means that they are measured by their girth in centimetres 1 metre above ground level (basically, their trunk's waist measurement). They aren't measured by their height, which will vary.

So, a 6/8 standard has a trunk with a circumference of 6-8 centimetres and an 8/10 standard has a trunk 8-10 centimetres around.

This measurement makes no difference to the tree's final height. Most standards are between 2 - 3.5 metres tall, but this is just an average. We cannot tell you how tall your trees will be before we deliver them.
