Dwarf Hancock Snowberry - Bareroot Shrubs

The Dwarf Snowberry, Symphoricarpos chenaultii 'Hancock', is a smaller and tidier version of the Snowberry. It provides excellent ground cover for shady places, including poorly fertile sites directly under a big tree that is hogging the soil nutrients. It has small green leaves that grow in pairs, close together along the stems, which are easy to clip neatly as a low, ornamental hedge.
Its little white flowers ripen into clusters of pretty pink berries, which are edible and have a slightly lemony flavour with a wetly crisp texture - they aren't bad, but you won't probably won't enjoy eating a handful of them and some sources say that you might feel a bit ill if you eat too many. The birds don't seem to go for them, so they decorate the branches well into winter.

Growing Dwarf Snowberry
This is a great little shrub for shady spots, but it will grow anywhere that has decent drainage. It is hardy across Britain, but we don't recommend it for very exposed, windy or coastal sites. Hard prune in March if necessary.
It will top a metre in height eventually, but it is at its best when you maintain it less than that. Use normal Symphoricarpos chenaultii if you need a plant 1-2 metres high.

Symphoricarpos is a central American plant.
