Escallonia - Apple Blossom
Apple Blossom Escallonia is an evergreen shrub with shiny scented green leaves which is ideal for smaller hedges - up to 1.5 metres tall. Like all escallonia it grows well by the sea and is happy in windy situations although it dislikes wetfrost pockets. The flowers are small, pretty and pink and white - leading to its name and are carried through the summer. Trimming this escallonia should therefore be left to late summer when Apple Blossom has finished flowering.
Good in sunny or lightly shaded, well-drained positions, but Escallonia Apple Blossom hates permanently damp or waterlogged sites. In cold inland situations, it is best planted near a wall. Having said which escallonia are all much hardier than people think. With good drainage all the escallonia we sell will comfortably stand -10C.
