Escallonia Crimson Spire
This is the fastest growing of the hedging escallonia we sell. Crimson Spire is a strong growing evergreen shrub with shiny scented dark green leaves and deep red bell shaped flowers which is ideal for hedges - up to 3 metres in milder parts of the UK. Like other escallonia, Crimson Spire is excellent by the sea and stands wind well. The flowers are carried through the summer until the first frosts. Trimming should therefore be done early and late. This Escallonia is good in sunny or lightly shaded, well-drained positions, but like the whole family it is an escallonia that hates damp or waterlogged sites. In cold inland situations, all escallonia are best planted near a wall.
