Fir trees are evergreen conifers, distinguished by their cones, which grow upright and crumble apart when they release their seeds. With the exception of Korean fir, which is suitable for an average sized garden, all of the firs that we grow are vigorous trees trees that reach towering heights of 40-60 metres.
Nordman Fir is famous as the "non-drop" christmas tree. Noble Fir is a widely planted softwood tree, used for paper pulp and chipboard. The Grand Fir is one of the most commonly planted coniferous timber trees in Britain, especially in the North.
The Douglas-fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, isn't a true Fir tree, but we have included here for convenience.
