Ready to Pleach Caucasian / Crimean Lime Trees - Large Standards - Delivered by Mail Order from the Nursery with a 1 Year Guarantee

These trees are the same as our normal Tilia x euchlora standards, except that we have grown them with a "flat head", which will make it very easy for you to pleach them along wires. Suitable for any fertile soil with decent drainage

PLEASE NOTE: The branches on these trees have been cleared off the trunk to a height of 2 metres. Therefore, they are not suitable if you want the lowest pleached tier to start less than 2 metres above ground level.

How Standard Trees are Measured:
All the plants in the ornamental trees section are graded as standards, which means that they are measured by their girth in centimetres 1 metre above ground level (basically, their trunk's waist measurement). They aren't measured by their height, which will vary. So, a 6/8 standard has a trunk with a circumference of 6-8 centimetres and an 8/10 standard has a trunk 8-10 centimetres around. This measurement makes no difference to the tree's final height.
Standard trees are 2 - 3.5 metres tall (on average) when they arrive; they are the most mature trees that you can buy from us. We cannot tell you precisely how tall your trees will be before we deliver them.

General description of Crimean Lime trees:
Tilia x euchlora is the best pleaching lime. When they are young, the heads of these trees are naturally two dimensional and we have encouraged them to grow flat. Please note that these trees are not pleached, but little or no work is required for you to train the side growths onto pleaching wires set at the heights you prefer. It is an easy tree to grow, suitable for most gardens and inner city locations.

Planting Distances for Pleached Limes:
The distance between the trees are determines how dense the final pleached effect is. The closer they are, the denser the screen and so the more effective it is as a visual barrier.
We would suggest a 2 metre spacing between the trees for reasonable density, 1.5 metres apart for a very dense effect and 2.5 metres apart to allow more light through.
When calculating how many trees are required, please remember that you need to allow half the planting distance at each end of the row before the first and after the last tree.
