Golden Privet - Ligustrum ovalifolium aureum
Golden Privet - sometimes called Variegated Privet or Ligustum ovalifolium Aurem is a strong growing shrub, similar to Green Privet except that it has bright golden markings on the leaves. It clips very well and so is often used for topiary.
Very slightly slower growing than Green Privet it does well in almost any soil except chalk and it tolerates quite deep shade and dry conditions. Golden Privet carries medium-sized variegated green/gold leaves and fragrant white flowers in summer.
Like all privet it grows fast forgiving the odd slip with the hedging shearsand has very dense foliage that tolerates extreme atmospheric pollution. These factors make it outstanding hedge plant. Being evergreen in all but the hardest winters Golden Privet also provides cover for small animals and nesting birds.
Clip into shape whenever needed. Plant in a single row at 3 per metre. Best for hedges of 12 metres.
