Green Privet is probably the best evergreen hedge plant for urban areas. It will thrive in compacted, polluted soil next to a main road and it tolerates close to full shade. Golden Privet is just as tough and has variegated yellow & green leaves.
Native, Wild Privet is the cheapest option. It isn't a full evergreen and it is widely planted in country hedges or as a tall shrub for wildlife cover, especially along the shady edges of woodland.
Privet grows to 4 metres tall.
Griselinia littoralis, known as New Zealand privet, is a similar looking plant that will grow on salty soil, close to the sea.
Delivery information:
The planting and delivery season for all bareroot Privet plants is November - March.
Green & Gold Privet are also available Pot-Grown, in larger sizes, year round.

An overgrown or sparse old privet hedge will regrow vigorously and bushy after being cut down to stumps about 60cms high.
Privet is very easy to propagate from cuttings. If you have the patience, you can easily start your own free privet hedge from a neighbour's clippings
