Malus domestica Yellow Ingestrie - Early-Mid Season

Description of Yellow Ingestrie Trees & Fruit:
A small apple with a rich, sweet-sour flavour and firm flesh. The skin is pale green, turning more yellow and developing a flush of earthy orange-yellow when it ripens.
It is not a very vigorous tree, so while it will take a bit longer to reach full size, it will also need less pruning than most other apple trees. The Yellow Ingestrie tree also has excellent blossom.

Browse all our apple trees here or read our guide to buying the right apple tree.

Characteristics of Yellow Ingestrie Trees:

  • Eating.
  • Self Sterile.
  • Pollination Group C
  • Spur Bearer: suitable for cordons & training on wires.
  • Harvest: Early September
  • Store & ripen in a cool, dry place: Until October.

Pollination Partners for Yellow Ingestrie:
Yellow Ingestrie is self sterile and its flowers must be pollinated to make fruit.
Your trees are in pollination Group C.
This means that they will cross-pollinate with other apple trees in pollination Groups B, C and D.

See our Guide to Apple Tree Pollination for a full list of partners & more tips about pollination (it's really simple, we promise!).

Apple Tree Rootstocks:
Yellow Ingestrie Maidens & Standards are grown on "MM106" rootstocks. These are suitable for espaliers and free standing trees.
Our Yellow Ingestrie Cordons are grown on dwarfing "M9" rootstocks.
Our Yellow Ingestrie Bush shaped apple trees are grown on "M26" rootstocks. These are free standing trees with short trunks. Their final height is about 3 metres.

Growing Yellow Ingestrie Apple Trees:
Rich soil is important - dig in plenty of good manure and compost before planting.
Soil drainage must be good, although apple trees do like clay soil.
The more sun your trees get, the better your crops will be.

History & Parentage of Yellow Ingestrie:
Yellow Ingestrie is recorded in the early 1800's as a cross between Orange Pippin and Golden Pippin, by Mr Knight of Wormsley Grange, Herefordshire.
