Japanese anemone Pamina

The joys of Anemone Pamina are many. Japanese anemones are pretty, dainty things that are reliable and undemanding and this variety is no exception. Indeed, Pamina is an RHS Award of Garden Merit holder, so it doesn't get more reliable than that. Making Pamina an integral part of our range of japanese anemones for sale

From July to September it flowers profusely (when many gardens can start to suffer from lack of interest), the blooms semi-double affairs with gently twisted rose-pink petals orbiting a bright yellow centre. The buds are rather special, starting as downy-soft cream-coloured buttons and gradually opening to reveal the buds, at first a rich claret colour. The stems are tall, wiry and painted a deep mahogany – a striking feature of this fabulous plant, rising to around 90cm tall. Because of the tall stems, it makes an excellent choice for cutting and bringing indoors. A soft mound of mid-green foliage supports these wiry stems, the leaves are handsome, with three distinct lobes.

In the garden

A classic cottage garden favourite, Japanese anemones bring colour to the late-summer garden. Plant in any soil (dig in a little soil improver in the form of garden compost or leaf mould) if you garden on heavy clay, in either sun or dappled shade. The front or middle section of a border is the ideal place to grow Pamina, perhaps alongside other late-summer stars such as purple asters and pink-tinged grasses, where it will be popular with bees and other pollinating insects.

Pamina will spread slowly through your borders, but is easy to pull up if she starts to get unruly.
