    Generally speaking, hedging is put in the ground over winter, using young bareroot plants when they are dormant.

    However, some circumstances call for a more instant, mature hedge – which is where container-grown (or potted) hedging plants play their part.

    Our summer 2013 photo competition is open for entries!

    Well, what strange seasonal change this year is throwing at us. In the space of a few days we seem to go from wind and hail to clear blue skies and sunbathing! Still, it keeps things interesting.

    One clear sign that we're on our way to summer is how green everything has suddenly become. It took a while to get here, but there's no denying the beauty of British hedging in full swing.

    So, this is your inspiration for our summer photo competition:

    "A green and pleasant land"

    Whether it's an expansive landscape or an extreme close-up, let the colour green guide your lens!

    The closing date for entries is midnight on Thursday 29 August 2013. The three winners will be contacted via email by Thursday 5 September.
