are edible, but some cultivated garden varieties have poor flavour or are too small for convenient eating, or make no hips in the case of self-deadheading varieties.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rank-math-faq-item\">\n<h3 class=\"rank-math-question\">Which roses produce the best hips for eating?<\/h3>\n<div class=\"rank-math-answer\">Wild hedge roses produce the best hips, in particular Dog Rose, Field Rose, Sweet Briar, and Scotch Burnet.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/collections\/wild-rose-plants\">Wild hedge roses<\/a> best rose make hips <strong>if <\/strong>they get pollinated <strong>and <\/strong>you allow them to develop, which is not usually the case with a typical <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/collections\/hybrid-tea-rose-bushes\">Hybrid Tea<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/collections\/floribunda-rose-bushes\">Floribunda<\/a> garden rose because it gets deadheaded and pruned.<\/p><p>So the roses covered in hips each year tend to have simple, open flowers such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/collections\/wild-rose-plants\">wild native roses<\/a> like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/products\/dog-rose-hedge-plants-rosa-canina\">dog rose<\/a>, a typical component of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/collections\/mixed-hedging-plant-packs\">mixed hedge packs<\/a>. <\/p><ul>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/products\/roseraie-de-lhay-shrub-rose-plants\">Rosa rugosa Ramanas Roses<\/a> have huge hips in bright colours with good flavour, but they have a lot of hairs inside to remove first. <\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/products\/red-leaf-rose-hedge-plants-rosa-glauca-rubrifolia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rosa glauca<\/a> sports plum tomato type hips, and is often grown as a shrub. <\/li>\n<li>Rambling roses flower once in Summer, and can be left untrimmed until their hips have faded\/fallen; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/products\/rambling-rector-rambling-rose-plants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Rambling Rector<\/a> has tiny oval orange hips, and the floriferous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ashridgetrees.co.uk\/products\/wedding-day-rambling-rose-plants\">Wedding Day<\/a> and pale pink <a <\/li>\n<li>Among the climbers, the sorbet Paul&#8217;s Lemon Pillar produces lovely hips.<\/li>\n<li>The best shrub roses fopr hips include red <a
