Growing Blueberry Cheesecake Hydrangeas

The Flair & Flavours range are tough, small shrubs that do well in containers. As Reblooming Hydrangeas, they flower on new and old wood. These hardy Hydrangeas prefer cool and moist coil in an area that is shady and sheltered - too much sun and wind tends to damage the foliage.

It likes rich, well-drained soil that has been improved with plenty of compost to help will hold the moisture and nutrients that hydrangeas love. Prune out older wood on mature plants in Autumn or late Winter to make way for new growth.

The soil pH can affect the availability of aluminium in the soil, which affects the colour of the flowers. Acidic soil, which is high in available aluminium, turns flowers blue, and lime or alkaline conditions turn them pink (by making the aluminium unavailable).

In Your Garden Design

Thalictrum delavayi, Chinese Meadow Flower, would be an excellent contrast, with its early autumn, lilac to white flowers. And give the combination a colourful boost with Penstemon Pensham Amelia Jayne paired alongside Salvia Hot Lips. Following the Asian theme, you could throw Azalea Geisha Purple into the mix. Two placed on either side of the start of a pathway or by a door would look delicious enough to eat, or allow to soften the edge of gravel pathways to give a cottage garden feel.
