Fabulous big red flowers with purple tinges, and large cream-yellow stamens. An unusual characteristic is that the early flowers are semi-double, sometimes fully, and the later flowers tend to be single. Blooms in May-June and August-September.

A compact climber, this would be perfect for growing in a pot on a balcony, so that you could admire the differently formed flowers at close quarters - double; semi-double and single: three for the price of one!

Delivery season: Clematis are delivered in pots year round, when in stock. It is usually best not to plant out pot grown plants in winter, but to keep them until Spring, because they will establish faster in warm soil and give you better first year growth.
Choosing a size: Small plants are cheaper and more forgiving of less than ideal aftercare, so they are best for a big planting project. If instant impact is your priority, or if you are only buying a few plants for use in a place where it is convenient to water them well in their first year, then you may as well use bigger ones. All our climbing plants come in standard pot sizes.

Growing 'Charmaine' Clematis

It will be happiest in alkaline or neutral soil. Fully hardy, it is best to plant it out of full sun in the South, because too much sun especially at midday, tends to fade the colour.

Charmaine derives from the Ancient Greek word khárma: joy. It is also the name of a popular song written in 1926, recorded by many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Max Bygraves and The Bachelors.
