Dahlias are wonderfully colourful, vigorous plants with prolific blooms and lush leaves. These tuberous plants fill the late summer flower garden, lasting until the first frosts.
Unlike most Flower Bulbs, which are very hardy, Dahlia Tubers are a bit too tender for planting outdoors in late Autumn or early Winter.
Even if they are often protected from frost under soil & mulch, the cold soil would make them wake up slowly if you did plant them outside too early.
Many people grow them in attractive pots that they can move from their display positions into shelter for midwinter.
