Growing Hardy Japanese Banana

Full sun, shelter from wind and a rich well drained soil are necessary for it to thrive.

They are hungry plants that need regular watering in dry weather to maintain their impressive growth rate.

Mulch over the base of the plant in Autumn to protect the crown from frost: they should be hardy down to -15C, but the mulch will both protect them and feed them for the following year, so it's worth doing even in the South.
