The deep and subtle rose-red tones of My Castle add real depth and interest to any early summer border. Each individual pea flower on the densely covered stem combines pinky rose lower petals often with a deeper red standard or upper petal. The spires of flower emerge from a sea of rich green foliage arranged in soft mounds at the base of each plant.

My Castle combines effortlessly with many other herbaceous perennials and is also ideal to plant in swathes throughout borders to create a dramatic statement. The vibrant blooms are a wonderful way to add a contemporary twist to cottage garden planting schemes, creating colour and interest alongside pale roses, white foxgloves and pale pink hardy geraniums. Best of all, these striking lupins have nectar-rich flowers which attract pollinating insects to the garden.

Deadhead faded flower stems to encourage a fresh flush of flowers in early autumn and remove any untidy foliage throughout the summer too.

Plant My Castle Lupins in a sunny or part-shaded spot, in well-drained soil as lupins dislike clay soils that stay wet in winter. Water regularly and protect young plants from slugs and snails until well established.

Water during dry periods to prevent mildew and feed with a general-purpose fertiliser in spring. Check regularly for aphid infestations and for slug and snail damage.

Deadhead faded blooms to encourage a fresh flush of flowers in early autumn. Stake plants if necessary in spring before flower spikes appear. Propagate from basal cuttings.
