Description

Chris Climbing Roses

Rosa Chris is an extremely desirable climber reaching an eventual height of 3m (10ft) and flowering from spring to the very first frosts of autumn. The strong growth is very healthy with good disease resistance, has excellent light green foliage and quite beautiful rich yellow, delightfully scented flowers. The flower buds are tight and resemble those of a hybrid tea rose but, as each flower opens, it spreads its petals to form an open double flower with orange stamens and some orange or red shading. If judiciously pruned Rosa Chris can be grown as a bush.

Good for your garden

The climber Rosa Chris is the perfect rose for an arch or pergola as the scented flowers are presented all summer long and can extend the flowering season when grown with climbers and ramblers bearing only one or two flushes. When grown with other climbers such as Danse du Feu, which is orange/scarlet, and Maigold, bronze/yellow, it would provide a strong, bright and 'hot' combination, quite spectacular and visually exciting. Alone it can be planted against a wall, perhaps fronted with complementary blue and purple perennials or low flowering shrubs or used to 'lift' a green shrub border. This is a superb rose. Trivia

Rosa Chris was bred by Gordon Kirkham in the UK and registered in 1998. It is a hybrid between Morgengruss and Whisky Mac. It was named Chris in memory of Chris Jones, a partner in C & K Jones Roses of Chester, who died of coronary heart disease, and is on their list of 'charity roses'. A percentage of every sale is donated to coronary related charities.
