Description

Paul's Scarlet Wichurana Hybrid Climbing Rose

Paul's Scarlet is a very free flowering old climbing rose, producing large clusters of brilliant, unfading scarlet double flowers, with dark green leaves. A friendly climber as the near-thornless stems are easily trained. Probably the only drawback of Pauls Scarlet as a climbing rose is that it does not repeat flower. 10ft.

Very tolerant of dappled shade and poor soil, but it needs watering in hot dry summers to prevent mildew.

Bred by William Paul & Son and released around 1915, which is the year it won the Royal National Rose Society gold medal. The parents are Paul's Carmine Pillar and Rêve d'Or.
