Description

Sexy Rexy Rose

Gorgeous and alluring, Sexy Rexy is a real looker in full flower. The flowers are of the sweetest, most delectable pink, with little golden buttons at the centres, in pretty double, shallow rosettes, carried in big, breathtaking clusters. The effect is a froth of sweet candy pink, on a compact, glossy green bush. This is one of the most popular Floribundas, and a rose that charms with its colour and abundance of flowers but if you have trouble keeping a straight face with the name, take a look at the rest of the floribunda roses in our range.

Looking good with…

Sexy Rexy is a good rose for pots and containers, and can even be trained to a standard. Although we think she's at her most naturally alluring in a mixed border, underplanted with blue hardy geraniums, for example, for a classic and truly stunning combination. Blue salvias or lavender would also work well, creating a wonderful romantic cottagey creation.

What's in a name?

The name caused something of a scandal when the rose was introduced in the 1980s by rose breeder Sam McGredy, the result of a cross between Seaspray and Dreaming. Inspired by a friend of McGredy's, the name was intended as a nickname for the trial period only, but it stuck. So be careful with your nicknames! It certainly doesn't seem to have harmed its popularity, however, accolades including the top award at the New Zealand Rose Society trials in 1984.

Planting Instructions

How to plant Sexy Rexy roses

If planting against a wall leave about 45cms (18") between plant and wall. Dig a hole deep enough to allow the graft to finish at soil level when planted and with plenty of room for the roots. Improve the soil from the hole by removing large stones, weeds, roots and other rubbish and mixing in about 25% by volume of well rotted compost or manure. Wet the roots and sprinkle with Rootgrow so it stays in contact with the roots. If planting a pot grown plant gently loosen some of the roots before planting.

Position your rose so the roots are spread out and it is set at approximately the same level in the soil as it was before being transplanted. The union should be level with the soil when you have finished planting. Backfill the hole with the planting mix, firming it down as you go. Water in thoroughly. Water again a day or two later and then keep watering in dry spells.
