Description

Moment in Time Floribunda Rose

Moment in Time is a terrible name for this brilliant little rose. Perpetual motion might have been better as this is probably the best non-stop flowering pillar box red rose there is. Which is why it was Rose of the Year 2012. Moment in Time is a genuine floribunda but is more ground cover rose sized; it is rarely more than 60cms tall. It has healthy, glossy leaves that are almost hidden by the clusters of simple, semi-double red flowers. The scent is quite mild, but the flowers last from the beginning of summer well into autumn without a break. The major downside of this vigour is that deadheading is a chore.

This rose is the most fabulous, glorious, Marilyn Monroe lipstick red - a truly brave colour. Browse our full selection of roses here, or our other Floribunda roses.

Great for your garden

Moment in Time is ideal for growing at the front of a rose border or in a mixed flower bed. As a small rose it is also terrific in containers and its colouring makes it a fascinating alternative to pot geraniums. They look amazing in window boxes for example, and they don't die when it freezes. However, the perfect location is not critical and this rose, despite its size is as hardy and disease resistant as any rose available today. It just wants good light. If you are planting it in a border, we would really recommend that you do not stop at one plant. We think three is a minimum and you get maximum impact with 5 or 6 plants spaced about 60cms (2ft) apart.

Planting Instructions

How to plant Moment in Time

Choose a spot in the border with good light. Dig a hole large enough so your rose will be planted with the graft union at soil level and with plenty of room for its roots around the sides. Improve the soil from the hole by removing weeds, large stones, rubbish and roots and adding a shovel full of compost or rotted manure. Sprinkle Rootgrow mycorrhizal fungi in the bottom of the hole so it will make contact with the roots. Potted roses should have some roots gently teased out of the rootball before planting.

Position your Moment in Time rose so its roots are spread out and backfill the hole with soil, firming it gently as you go. Water in thoroughly.

You can order bareroot roses at any time and plant them from November to April, or container roses are available all year round.

Feed and mulch with well rotted manure in spring every year and keep well watered during dry periods for the first year.

Floribundas are pruned in late winter, when the strongest shoots can be cut back to an outward facing bud 30-40 cms above soil level and the weakest shoots are removed altogether. Moment in Time should be deadheaded throughout the summer to encourage continuous flowering. It is worth it.
