Royal Wedding Sweet Peas

Royal Wedding is one of the best white varieties of sweet pea available, making it popular with both exhibitors and your average gardener after some gorgeous white, scented flowers to fill vases and brighten up borders. However if you prefer saturated colours or pastel shades, then check out the rest of our range of sweet peas for sale.

There's the faintest, gentlest hint of greeny cream to the innermost parts of the bloom, but essentially this is a pure-white variety. The stems are long and sturdy, and the foliage an elegant slightly greyish green.

Royal Wedding may be demure but she has plenty to shout about. It's a classic Spencer, the blooms wavy at the edges, held four to six on each long, strong stem, specially designed for picking and adding to arrangements in vases. Royal Wedding is the ideal sweet pea for a wedding bouquet of course, but even a single stem will perfume a room.

Growing in the garden

Like all annual sweet peas, Royal Wedding is simple to grow. Keep them well watered, grow in good, rich soil(dig in some manure before planting, if you can) with supports such as canes, an arbour or a pergola to scramble up, and the plants will keep on blooming right into autumn. In fact, the more you snip, the more they'll flower. Give plants a high-potash feed every couple of weeks and you'll be rewarded even further. And if you spot any seed pods, snip them off straight away.

Sweet peas are the quintessential cottage garden annual, combining knockout scent with fabulous good looks and a great affinity with pollinators and beneficial insects. When planting, mix Royal Wedding with other bicoloured annual sweet peas for a partnership that will stand the test of time. Try blue and pink Erewhon or red and white streaked America. Consider, too, the backdrop you provide for a white sweet pea. A tall evergreen hedge or dark painted fence behind will make the flowers really stand out. If you're growing your sweet peas in pots, make sure they have supports and never dry out.
