Description

Ebony Blackcurrant Bushes

Ebony is a high yielding blackcurrant with the sweetest flavour, intended for eating when fresh.

The fruit is huge, often about the size of the other big variety, Big Ben, and when ripe it is easily sweet enough to eat without sugar. If you have too many, they freeze well. Cropping is from early July onwards.

Ebony is the least suitable for cooking, but if you do, use less sugar than with tangier varieties.

As with all currants, Ebony Blackcurrants are best grown in rows with 1.40 metres between plants and 1.5 metres between rows.

If you are starting your blackcurrant selection, Ebony is great to include because she establishes faster than other varieties and so will probably be the first to make a decent crop after two years.
