Home > Beech Hedging & Trees
Beech, Fagus sylvatica, is a large native tree that makes a great hedge plant. It is suitable for any sites with well drained soil and at least half a day of sun. If your site is damp and shady, we recommend planting Hornbeam instead.
Grown as a tree, Beech will reach about 35 metres tall. Green beech is more vigorous than Copper beech.
Green Beech hedging and Copper Beech hedging are both classic choices for enhancing your property with a distinguished, formal border, bursting with seasonal character. Green Beech is available in discounted packs of 50 large hedge plants.
You can also buy large green beech trees and copper beech trees in standard sizes.

Clip mature Beech hedges in mid-summer:
Beech isn't evergreen, but you can encourage it to hold onto its autumn leaves right through the winter: when the hedge is mature, trim it in Midsummer, around early August. Don't start doing this until the hedge has reached the desired height; only trim it lightly once each winter while it is still growing.
Thank you. Impressive service indeed. I hadn't expected to hear from you until Monday. I add that I found your webpages very informative, well laid out and easy to reference. I had previously become almost dementedly confused while trying to choose trees at two local very well known horticultural centres near MK, to the point of despairing and abandoning the intention. Best regards
