Silver Birch, Lady of the Woods - Betula pendula

Silver Birch or Betula pendula is a medium sized, conical native tree with a graceful open, weeping habit, silver grey bark and diamond shaped, mid-green leaves that turn golden in the autumn. Like many other memebers of its family, Silver Birch trees establish readily and grow very quickly. Naturally occuring seedlings grows readily in poor and wet areas that most trees turn their noses up at. Betula pendula has a relatively short lifespan do not expect more than 60-80 years, but it reached full height in about 2 years which makes it one of the fastest growing native trees. Silver Birch trees grow well in most soils, but they prefer moist, even wet sites.
