Cotoneaster simonsii is a strong growing, upright, semi-evergreen shrub that clips neatly as a hedging plant.
Cotoneaster simonsii is good for hedges up to about 2 metres high.
It is often planted in a mixed hedge with the Orange Berried Cotoneaster franchetii for a bit more colour.

Cotoneaster simonsii hedge plants are delivered bareroot during winter (Nov-March) and pot-grown year round.
Bareroot shrubs are cheaper than pot grown plants. Pot-Grown bushes are available in the largest sizes.

Choosing a size:
When you are ordering Cotoneaster simonsii plants for a hedge, we generally recommend that you use the smaller, bareroot plants, are graded at 40/60cms. They are cheaper than the larger, pot-grown plants, easier to handle and they will establish well in poor conditions.
Use larger plants if you want a taller hedge quickly or for instant impact as a specimen shrub.
All our hedge plants are measured by their height in centimetres above the ground (the roots aren't measured).

Spacing a Cotoneaster simonsii hedge:
Plant Cotoneaster simonsii hedging at 3 plants per metre, 33cms apart.
The 100/125cms tall, pot-grown plants can be planted at 2 plants per metre, 50cms apart.

General description of Cotoneaster simonsii plants:
Cotoneaster simonsii is almost evergreen; it keeps its leaves in a mild winter and loses them, usually in late winter, if the weather is harsh. This is normal and doesn't hurt the plants.
Its small, dense leaves make it ideal for hedging and it responds well to regular clipping if you want to keep it really neat. It has lots of charming, tiny flowers in spring and bright red berries in autumn and early winter.

History & uses of Cotoneaster simonsii:
Cotoneaster simonsii comes from the Himalayas and was brought to Britain in 1865. It has won an RHS award of garden merit.
