Description

Peaches & Cream Tulips

Peaches & Cream Tulips are a mouthwatering treat in the spring garden. After the long winter months, these beauties will emerge to put on a spectacular show, conjuring up thoughts of all things sweet and indulgent.

The flower heads are the double variety, delivering a stunning display reminiscent of the showiest peonies. The beautifully delicate creamy yellow petals are tipped with melt-in-the-mouth blush pink, a colour combination that really is the essence of spring and which sings out against the green foliage. The silky blooms also look fantastic after a dusting of raindrops. And then there's the subtle scent, which will tempt you to linger and enjoy their beauty just that little bit longer. To complete your spring garden display, take a look at the rest of our huge range of tulip bulbs for sale.

A Feast for the Senses

Peaches & Cream tulips will be the star of the spring show in your garden in April and May, after the first rush of spring-flowering bulbs have finished. Not too tall and with sturdy stems, dot them towards the front of borders where they can take centre stage, and other plants can help hide the foliage as it dies back later in the season. The stunning blooms make great cut flowers too, so it's well worth adding Peaches & Cream tulips to your cutting garden.

Tulips are also ideal for giving containers extra wow factor. Plant them under spring bedding and foliage plants such as Ivy or Heuchera, and they will reward you by bringing height and majesty to your display. Peaches & Cream tulips would look fantastic alongside hot pink Primulas, or you could provide a zingy green backdrop for those fabulous flowers with Euphorbia.

As with all tulip bulbs, the plant will die back after flowering and return year after year - so make a note of where you've planted them!

A Passionate Message

Move over roses: tulips have also been widely used to symbolise love and passion in recent centuries. Dig a little further into the tulip's origins in the Ottoman empire, and you'll find it has also represented paradise on earth. The exception to this trend towards lofty emotions comes courtesy of the ever-practical Victorians, who used tulips to convey a charitable purpose. We think their show-stopping flowers are much better suited to the more romantic message!

Planting Instructions

Plant Peaches & Cream tulip bulbs from August onwards, ideally a few weeks before the first frosts are expected.

Tulips thrive in rich, well-drained soil; aim to plant them in a spot that benefits from full sun or part shade. Space the bulbs 10-15cm apart, planting each one at least three times deeper than the bulb is tall.

Deadhead the flowers when they start to fade but allow the leaves to finish growing and delivering energy to the bulb for next yearbs flowers. You can also give tulip bulbs a boost for next year by feeding with a high potash fertiliser during the growing season.
