Bay Laurel, Cherry Laurel and Portuguese Laurel Hedge Plants and Small Trees
Whether you want them for a boundary or a specimen, laurel hedging plants have attractive evergreen leaves and grow in a wide range of places. The Common Cherry Laurel, Prunus laurocerasus Rotundifolia, and the Portuguese Laurel, Prunus lusitanica, grow in any well drained soil and are very shade tolerant. If they aren't clipped hard, they will produce masses of finely scented, small white flowers in early summer. These two laurel trees can also be used to provide lush foliage in dark corners or under large trees. Bay Laurels, Laurus nobilis, need a good dose of sun; they are also unsuitable for planting outside in Northern areas. On the other hand, they can be planted by the sea and make ideal container plants - which means that you can always bring them inside on frosty nights. All of our laurel hedging plants have been trimmed to encourage bushy growth and don't need pruning in their first year - they are also equally suitable for use outside a hedge, as specimen trees, shrubs or ground cover. Should I buy Potted or Bare Root Laurel? Barerooted plants are both cheaper and, initially, tend to have larger roots than potted stock. They can only be delivered and planted between November and March - the ideal time for transplanting shrubs and trees. Potted plants are available for most of the year - please note that they will need regular watering during dry spells.
There are savings to be had on orders of multiple plants for all varieties - see each page for details.
