Description

Ectoycorrhizae - Single Application Root Growth Fungi

Each 150g sachet contains 18 species of mycorrhizae fungi, bulked up with poultry manure which adds nitrogen & potash and water storing granules that help ensure rapid growth for the fungi.

Certain types of "friendly fungi" are essential to plants' root growth. These friendly mycorrhizal fungi form fibrous structures, microscopic in size, that almost entirely coat and sometimes grow into the roots of many types of tree.

Mycorrhizae can extract essential inorganic minerals, nitrogen and water from the surrounding soil that the roots can't get at. They give the roots a buffer against bacteria and drought. They also compete with harmful fungi, giving them less of a chance to infect your trees.

In return, the fungi absorb sugar from the plant. Although both the plant and the fungi can survive in the soil without each other, they truly thrive in each others company. The fungi will come naturally from a fertile soil, but colonisation is usually slow.

The difference in establishment with mycorrhizae is amazing - Try it and see.... just sprinkle over the roots when they are in the hole but before you have returned the soil. If the soil in your area is clearly not very fertile, we strongly recommend using a bit of this - Mycorrhizae will prove as useful as digging in lots of good compost (also a good idea - if you have the energy!).

Application:
1 sachet of Mycorrhizae fungi
will treat one standard tree or fruit bush and three fruit maidens or cordons or Rose Bushes.

If you are using it on plants in a hedge row, you can be much more sparing, as young plants have vigorously growing roots and the fungi will ride on them, spreading along the hedge. Apply a light dusting to each plant's roots and a pack will last for several metres.

Mycorrhizae are always a good thing to mix into the soil at planting time, whatever your soil type.
If your soil is poor, we recommend it for use with any plants.
If you have rich soil, then we still recommend it for "working" plants like fruit trees and soft fruit bushes. Most Hedging Plants and Standard Trees, especially native species, can do without it if you are on a tight budget.
