How Standard Trees are Measured:
All the plants in the ornamental trees section are graded as standards, which means that they are measured by their girth in centimetres 1 metre above ground level (basically, their trunk's waist measurement). They aren't measured by their height, which will vary. So, a 6/8 standard has a trunk with a circumference of 6-8 centimetres and an 8/10 standard has a trunk 8-10 centimetres around. This measurement makes no difference to the tree's final height.
Standard trees are 2 - 3.5 metres tall (on average) when they arrive; they are the most mature trees that you can buy from us. We cannot tell you precisely how tall your trees will be before we deliver them.

General description of Tilia Pallida trees:
Tilia europaea Pallida is a cultivar of the Common Lime tree with yellow lustre to the newer branches and tidier, pyramidal habit. It bears small, scented, creamy flowers in early summer which have a special leaf hanging down next to them that spins round like a struggling helicopter when the mature seeds fall, which carries them a bit farther from their parent tree.
Kaiser Linden's large, roundish leaves and young stems attract lots of aphids in the summer. The sugary dew drops that they produce can be a nuisance if a car is parked under them, but they also provide a feast for all sorts of birds and useful insects like ladybirds. Bees also benefit from the large supply of nectar to be found in this tree's flowers.

History & uses of Kaiser Linden
Known as Kaiserlinden or Kaiser Linden, which means the King's Lime, this tree is adored by street planners worldwide for its upright growth, immunity to air pollution and tolerance of brutal pruning, even by unskilled workers. There is a street in Berlin dedicated to this tree called Unter den Linden, which means "Under the Linden Trees".
