Malus hupehensis - Crab Apple Tree
Malus Hupehensis (sometimes called the Hubei Crab) is a small but fast growing crab apple tree, with rather upright branches, making it narrower than most other malus varieties. Malus hupehensis is one of the very best crab apples for use as an orchard pollinator as it is incredibly free flowering over an extended period - from late April into June.
Because it is small, with upright branches that form a goblet shape, malus hupehensis is also well suited for use in smaller gardens where, with its masses of small cherry like red fruit which it carries well into winter it provides interest for a large part of the year.
Most well drained soils. To 9m.
