In Season Out of season
Acer campestre Royal Ruby tree, is a Red Field Maple with gorgeous red young shoots and leaves in spring, which turn mid green for the summer. Like the other field maples, the foliage turns a clear, pale golden colour in autumn.
We grow another ornamental Field Maple called Acer campestre Streetwise and you can also buy wild Field Maple saplings and larger Field Maple trees.
Acer Royal Ruby trees can reach a height of about 20 metres.

How Standard Trees are Measured:
All the plants in the ornamental trees section are graded as standards, which means that they are measured by their girth in centimetres 1 metre above ground level (basically, their trunk's waist measurement). They aren't measured by their height, which will vary. So, a 6/8 standard has a trunk with a circumference of 6-8 centimetres and an 8/10 standard has a trunk 8-10 centimetres around. This measurement makes no difference to the tree's final height.
Standard trees are 2 - 3.5 metres tall (on average) when they arrive; they are the most mature trees that you can buy from us. We cannot tell you precisely how tall your trees will be before we deliver them.
General description of Acer Royal Ruby trees:
This tree is a field maple with rich wine-red young stems and leaves that give a splash of colour to your garden in spring. Royal Ruby's leaves are slightly smaller than the wild tree's.
It is suitable for any soil except acidic peat and it will grow in any location except on the coast. Although it will tolerate quite a lot of shade, we recommend planting it where there is more than half a day of sun to encourage the best colour on the new growth.
