Pyrus Winter Nellis - Late Season

Description of Winter Nellis Trees & Fruit:
A small russet pear with grainy flesh, a perfect cooking pear and fine for eating fresh if you like a firmer bite.
They store exceptionally well, until March in ideal, cold conditions.

The tree is not very vigorous, which is good for smaller gardens.

Characteristics of Winter Nellis Trees:

  • Self Sterile.
  • Pollination group B.
  • Harvest Late October - Early November & ripen off the tree.
  • Stores very well until February / March in a cold place.

Our Winter Nellis pear trees are all grown on "Quince A" rootstocks - this is the ideal rootstock for Winter Nelis, because it is not a very vigorous tree.
These are suitable for cordons, espaliers and free standing trees.

Growing Winter Nellis Pear Trees:
Rich soil is important - dig in plenty of good manure and compost before planting.
Soil drainage must be good.
The more sun your trees get the better your crops will be.
