Description

Pyracantha Soleil d'Or / Golden Sun

Delivered by Mail Order Direct from our Nursery with a Year Guarantee

Pyracantha Soleil d'Or (variously listed as Yellow, Golden, or Orange Sun) is an upright evergreen screening and hedge plant. As with the rest of the Pyracantha family, Soleil d'Or is armed with vicious thorns waiting for the unwary, as they are well hidden behind masses of white flowers in spring. The plants are covered in large clusters of bright yellow berries in autumn and into winter (great for garden birds) and glossy, evergreen foliage all year round. Pyracantha grows in pretty much any soil, is a really good choice in shady and windy spots and clips beautifully as a hedge plant or when grown against a wall, trellis or fence. We have one at home in a north facing corner where it hides an ugly downpipe.

Pyracanthas always look great mixed together, especially as hedging so have a look at our Red Column and Orange Glow.

Once established it is pretty much vandal and intruder proof and planted at 3 per metre and kept clipped, it is also cat and dog resistant. In August, trim new growth to about three leaves in front of the ripening berries for a better display of fruit in Autumn.

The best time to prune Pyracantha is during the winter months. Cut new growth back quite hard. This encourages the plants to become bushier and carry more flowers and berries.
