Coastal Hedging Plants
A Selection of Hedge Plants Suitable for Coastal Planting
The wind, poor soil and salt that come with coastal planting present real challenges to gardeners and although the choice of seaside hedging plants is limited, don't despair! Our list of plants for use in coastal hedging contains some really gorgeous options that can perform any of the roles you require. Coastal hedges can be kept quite formal with Oleaster or Griselinia, both of which are easy to clip neatly. You can go for a visual feast with a range of wild roses, Escallonia with its profuse blooms and scented leaves, Cotoneaster for winter interest or Tamarisk and its plumed branches that resemble coral when in flower. If you need a secure coastal hedge, Sea Buckthorn will do nicely and you can always throw in a few roses for good measure. In fact, there is no reason why your coastal hedge should not be the envy of its inland counterparts.
Our Ready Made Coastal Hedge Packs are made up of 50% Hawthorn & Blackthorn and the other 50% is a random mix of the other plants.
The planting and delivery season for bare rooted coastal hedging packs and bareroot plants is November through to March. Pot grown plants can be planted at any time.
