Growing 'Butterfly Tower' Buddleja Bushes

Buddleja will thrive in any sunny position in moist and well-drained soil. They will also grow well in shady locations but won't flower as well. Cut back hard in early spring during the first half of March. Deadhead promptly to prolong their season.

In Your Garden Design

This would make a strikingly stately, tall tower of an addition to any shrub border, with a backdrop of a colourful fence or wall. It is also ideal for hedging, making a fantastically colourful screen which will dance with butterflies during the flowering season. Plant in a pot as a vertical feature or plant in a border with an array of smaller upright towering plants alongside them such as Flaming Torch Lilies or Echinacea Flaming Tower combined with Dahlia Golden Torch.

Did You Know?

Bred by the Suffolk breeder known for its interesting array of Buddlejas, Thompson & Morgan, this was an Entrant for Chelsea Plant of the Year 2019. It didn't win but it is certainly a winner in the garden, particularly with butterflies who love them. For good displays of them visit The National Buddleja Collection in Hampshire, founded in 1994 and established as a collection in 1998 using 70 different cultivars.
