Jeffersons Gages

Jeffersons is a gage with greeny yellow fruit with reddish markings almost like freckles. The fruit is very round for a gage but the shape does not seem to affect the taste which is outstanding. This is a tree with moderate, upright growth that is ready for picking in late August- September. Jeffersons Gage is not self-fertile and needs to be pollinated by Denniston's Superb or Victoria (not a worry as there is almost certainly a Victoria plum near you...)

This is also an interesting plant historically - its name rather gives the ancestry away as Jeffersons Gage was bred by Judge Jesse Buel in about 1830 in New York State and named in honour of the third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson who had died 4 years before.

Please note that all our Jefferson gages are on St Julien A rootstocks.

Bareroot planting is best done between October and April
Bareroot and potted - what's the difference?
