Bamboo Canes

Even in a  sheltered area, young hedge plants are best supported by a cane while they establish. If rabbits are on the loose in your area, your plants will need a spiral guard, which is supported by a cane (unless the plant is already established or otherwise staked.).

Please note that we do not sell canes without plants: one cane per plant. Growing bamboo is the locally sufficient way to have as many canes as you need.

Health is wealth: Canes can poke and cut. Pay attention, because they are:

  • Difficult to see end ways on. Please be careful of canes around your eyes, especially when bending down and weeding in between them. Eye protection is recommended, and some people find that the orange or yellow ones help them.
  • A natural, woody product that has been cleaned of leafy side stems. The nodes can have sharp edges and remnants of the side stems, and if the cane cracks it can produce unpleasant splinters. Wear decent gloves when handling them, especially when pushing them into the soil.
