Growing Woolly Lip Ferns

They love a humus rich soil, and prefer dappled shade. Established plants tolerate dry conditions well, especially in the shade.

Their natural habitat is sheltered nooks in rocky terrain.

In Your Garden Design

This fern is ideal for drier, sunnier prairie garden styles à la contemporary gardener Piet Oudolf, and Mediterranean planting schemes. It would look great tucked into a rocky crevice or planted with Thyme - Silver Queen would be ideal. Like many ferns, it's an urban garden designer's dream for bringing out a sense of greenery in small courtyard settings. Ideal companion plants are hostas - Orange Marmalade would look great - and hellebores. Plant in containers or liberally in borders planting taller ferns behind.
