Hedge plants & sapling trees are measured by their height in centimetres above soil level, so their roots or pots aren't measured.

Pot sizes are measured by their volume in litres, except for the smallest size, 9cm / p9 pots, which are roughly half a litre.

Hedging troughs are 1 metre long.

Buying Bay Laurel Hedging Online From Ashridge

The Classic Mediterranean Evergreen Hedge

Latin Name: Laurus nobilis

Bay Laurel makes excellent formal evergreen hedging in the warmer Southern & Western side of Great Britain, and in sheltered urban areas further North.
It is hardy, but cold dry Winter winds in exposed Northern locations tend to scorch the foliage.

You can buy ready-made bay tree lollipops and pyramids, which can be gift wrapped.

  • Order now, pay later: we don't charge your card until before delivery
  • When your order is ready: your mail order Lavenders are delivered by next working day courier (not the next working day after ordering!)
  • Friendly support: if there is anything wrong with your plants when you inspect them, Contact Us within 5 working days

Delivery Prices

A typical delivery charge for bay plants is under £15, depending on the order size, if there are no larger plants like trees in the order as well.
Delivery is calculated automatically during checkout after you enter your delivery address.

Delivery Season

Bay hedging is delivered in pots, year round.

Delivery Lead Time

  • Typically 2 weeks if the plant is in stock, rather than available to order
  • We process orders in batches to keep costs low
  • We keep you notified by email

Choosing a pot size

  • The cheapest plants in P9 pots are popular with planters planning ahead: in 3 years, they will be as tall as a man.
If you plant P9s out directly, the best time is late-May into June when the soil is warm and there is plenty of growing time before Winter. We don't recommend planting P9s out later: larger plants are stronger and will do better over their first Winter.
  • In Spring, P9s are great value, but as the growing season progresses through Summer, it's better to use larger, stronger plants in 1 Litre pots.
  • 100/125cm Bush: the ideal size for starting a hedge easily.

How many plants per metre?

Spacing a Bay Laurel hedge: Like most evergreen hedging, the default spacing is 3 per metre, 33cm apart in a single row.
