Growing 'Ever White' Agapanthus

Agapanthus need full sun to perform properly and are not suitable for planting outside in colder areas: here they should be grown in a pot and brought under shelter in winter. Otherwise, if an extensive period of frosts or snow is forecast, it is best to cover them

Suitable for any well-drained soil, they like sharply drained, sandy soil in particular, but they will not flower well if they dry out during the growing season.

You can cut out the flowering stems when they fade, but many people prefer to leave some of them for a while to provide autumn interest, and remove them after winter cold blackens them.

'Ever White' in Your Garden Design

Take advantage of the fact that white plants really stand out in the fading light and grow it in pots on the terrace. Use it with white lilies and pots of gaura. In borders, put against a backdrop of a lovely white rambling rose such as Felicite Perpetue combined gloriously with a white wisteria such as Longissima Alba and or a white clematis such as Alba and armandii. A sun-loving perennial like a white lavender such as Alba or a cosmos such as Double Click Snow Puff would combine well. Keep following a white colour palate and you'll create a lovely romantic theme.
