Delivery season: Cowslip plants are delivered in pots year round, when in stock.
Ideal for dappled shade in moist but well-drained soil around taller trees, and recesses in rockeries, where they thrive in the dry, chalky environment. If happy, they should naturalise. They are great for providing pollen for bees.
Please note: If you receive your plants in late Autumn or during winter, it is better not to plant them outside until the weather warms up in Spring. They won't establish well in cold soil, and there is a small risk of them failing as a result.
A British native and once a common sight in our meadows and pastures before intensive farming took over, cowslips are ideal for informal cottage gardens and look lovely naturalised in damp grass. Grow with snakeshead fritilleries, or on their own in pots if you want to admire them close up. Just make sure they are kept moist.
When they flower is rather given away in the name - veris means spring. Cowslips are said to have a sedative quality and they are also used in a wine; the two may be related.
