Description

'Lovestruck' Floribunda Rose Bushes

Lovestruck? And how we were.....really. This is a wow of a rose and thoroughly deserving of its moniker. Awarded Rose of the Year 2018 which is the most coveted prize in the rose world. It is amazing to consider that with all the choice of roses in the world people still dedicate themselves to breeding even better and more beautiful varieties. Lovestruck has just knocked every other red rose off their pedestal for sheer intense, plummy, fruity, ripest red. The velvety petals are individually huge and about 26 of them combine in a tight whorl to develop and open out to make each 10 cm wide flower. What is more, each sturdy (and it needs to be) arching stem bears about 20 of these stupendous flowers which first burst onto the scene in late spring and persevere uninterrupted until the frosts, and then a little bit more. Its stamina is Olympian. The wonders of modern breeding have also rendered Lovestruck so hardy and healthy that you should not need to resort to sprays or tinctures to preserve its perfect, dark green glossy foliage either. A really worthy addition to our range of bareroot roses for sale

Lovestruck to Dumbstruck

A really impressive use of Lovestruck is in mass plantings where the sheer weight of flower will stop any traffic or passerby. Its depth of colour, elegant habit and continuous flowering guarantee you a low maintenance, no gaps solution for a bed in prime view in your garden. The effect is stunning. Deep red roses look wonderful against stone walls or cut a dash in a sea of silvery foliage - think Senecio cineraria or any lavender - or against acid green - how about Alchemilla mollis or Euphorbia. Every cutting garden should also have at least one Lovestruck, not least to use the petals to scatter over cakes or puddings or strew down the centre of a table to take deconstruction to a new level.

Pedigree and parentage

Lovestruck is the serendipitous result of a commingling of pollen from an American rose called Knockout with a seedling parented by Precious Memories and Wild Rover. And we all thought the Kennel Club was convoluted......
