Description

Lovely Freedom Hybrid Tea Rose

Rosa Freedom is a delightful small hybrid tea rose with large bright chrome yellow flowers that hold their colour without fading and repeat freely from spring until late autumn. The blooms are exceptional, having tight centres and a very regular shape as well as being such a vibrant, zingy yellow. The foliage is a dark glossy green and the vigorous, compact bush is spreading, with thorny stems and a delicate fragrance.  It will tolerate a small amount of very light shade but prefers full sun.

How to use Rosa Freedom

Rosa Freedom, with its compact size and shape, is an absolutely perfect rose for bedding, perhaps one of the most perfect. When planted in groups of 3 or 5 the richness of the large, unfading and tight centred chrome yellow flowers, set against dark green glossy foliage, can light up the garden all summer and it is best seen this way.  When used as part of a mixed planting it can be lost among taller perennials, being no more than 3ft in height, and is, therefore, always best towards the front of the border.

Interesting facts

Rosa Freedom was bred by one of Northern Ireland's most famous and long-established rose growers, Dickson's Nurseries.  Alexander Dickson (1801 - 1880) began breeding roses in the 1870s and the business is still run by his descendants today.  Freedom was brought to the market in 1984 and won the RHS Award of Garden Merit, The Royal National Rose Society's Gold Medal in 1983 and The Hague Gold Medal in 1992.  According to the language of flowers so beloved of the Victorians, yellow roses mean friendship and freedom.
