Description
Hebe 'Jewel of the Nile' Plants. 2 Litre Pots
Hebe ‘Jewel of the Nile’ is a compact, and bushy evergreen shrub with striking tri-colour foliage. Its fragrant pink flowers are brilliant for attracting pollinators into your garden.
An attractive low-maintenance feature in rockeries and borders. It can also be used as an edging plant for paths, and as ground cover for tricky spots like slopes and banks. It's great for urban gardens and will happily grow in large containers.
Ideal for smaller gardens where you can make the most of its year round interest. It flowers throughout the summer from May to August and in the colder months its glossy yellow-green variegated leaves acquire warm pinkish red margins, adding a splash of colour to the winter garden. The pale to mid pink flowers provide a good source of nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators.
Hebes are only delivered pot-grown, year round.

Growing Jewel of the Nile Hebes
Suitable for any well-drained soil, they tolerate partial shade well. They are hardy across most of the UK, but in cold areas of the North and Scotland, they are best grown in pots that can be moved into shelter from dry winter winds. In other areas outside the South West, covering them during an extended period of frost or snow is recommended to prevent cosmetic damage, but not essential.
Hebes prefer poor soil, so do not add any of our rich composts to the soil before planting: sand would be better in most normal topsoils. In heavy clay soil, churn the ground over to add a bit of gravel & grit (not sand) to give their roots breathing space, likewise add grit to a planting mix for Hebes in pots.
They don't like being hard pruned, so give them a light trim in spring to keep them tight and bushy. If you need to tidy a stray stem, prune it back as little as possible, to a good-looking bud.
In Your Garden Design
‘Jewel of the Nile’ makes a vivacious addition to cottage gardens and shrubberies. Team it with textural plants to complement its colourful foliage. Phormium ‘Jester’ and Heuchera ‘Lime Marmalade’ would make vibrant partners, as would grasses like Carex ‘Prairie Fire’ and compact shrubs like Pittosporum ‘Tom Thumb’ or ‘Golf Ball’.
