Dior is a double early tulip, which means twice the usual number of petals packed into each flower head. The effect is peony-like — soft rose pink, lightly ruffled, fuller and more romantic than the clean lines of a single tulip. At 50cm tall she is a good mid-border height, sturdy enough to hold those heavy double heads without staking in most positions.
Double tulips flower slightly later than singles, which extends the tulip season by a useful week or two. Plant Dior behind a row of early crocuses and you get a relay of colour from February into May. For cutting, the double flowers last well in water and the extra petals give each stem real presence in a vase.
For a pink-and-white spring scheme, plant alongside Foxtrot (pink and cream double) or scatter among white daffodils. At ground level, anemones fill the gaps. Browse our full tulip collection.
Your bulbs are premium-size, Dutch-grown, and hand-graded before dispatch. Bigger bulbs store more energy, which means more flowers in the first season and stronger establishment. We import directly and check every batch. Delivered in autumn, ready to plant straight away. If anything arrives soft or damaged, call the team in Somerset and we will replace it. Which? A tulip with extra petals that create a full, peony-like flower. "Early" means they flower in April, before the double late types which come in May. The extra petals make them heavier — choose a sheltered spot if your garden is windy. Our bulb types guide explains the differences.
Some do, some don't — and honesty matters here. Double tulips are less reliable perennials than species types. Many gardeners treat them as a one-season display and plant fresh bulbs each autumn. If you want tulips that reliably return, try species tulips or Darwin Hybrids. Our planting guide covers timing.
October to November, which is later than most bulbs. Tulips benefit from waiting until the soil has cooled — it reduces the risk of tulip fire disease. Plant 15cm deep, pointed end up. Full instructions in our bulb planting guide.
