Finola produces luxurious double flowers in soft pink shades — rosy at the edges, paler towards the centre, with ruffled petals that give each bloom the look of a small peony. As a double late tulip, she flowers after most other tulips have finished, which makes her useful for extending the spring display into May.
The stems are sturdy at 45cm, strong enough for cutting. A vase of Finola on a kitchen table in late April is one of those small domestic pleasures that justifies the effort of autumn planting. In the border, she fills the gap between the last daffodils and the first roses.
For an all-pink spring, pair with Pink Impression (Darwin Hybrid, earlier) and pale hyacinths. For contrast, try deep purple Negrita. Browse the full collection.
Your bulbs are premium-size, Dutch-grown, and hand-graded before dispatch. Bigger bulbs store more energy, which means more flowers in the first season. We import directly and check every batch. Delivered in autumn, ready to plant. If anything arrives soft or damaged, call Somerset and we replace it. Which? Best Plant Supplier. Browse all our flower bulbs.
A tulip with peony-like, multi-petalled flowers that bloom in late April and May — after most other tulip groups. The heavy flower heads need sheltered positions. Sometimes called "peony-flowered tulips."
Excellent. The double flowers have substance and the stems are strong. Cut when the bud is showing colour but not fully open — double tulips continue to open in the vase and the display lasts longer.
Double late tulips are among the least reliable perennials. Most gardeners plant fresh each autumn for the best display. If they do return, the flowers may be smaller in the second year. Our planting guide has advice.
